Terms of Use
Last updated 27 October 2026
The short version
You keep everything you make here. You are responsible for what you publish, including labelling paid or affiliate links. We run the service as well as we can but make no promises about it being perfect or permanent. Nothing in this summary overrides the sections below — it is here because a document nobody reads protects nobody.
Who these terms are with
These terms are an agreement between you and Jake Iggulden, who runs Yomp.guide. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the service.
What the service is
Yomp.guide lets you record the gear you took on a trip, the route you walked and the photographs you took, and publish that as a page others can read. It is a young product, actively being built, and parts of it will change or be withdrawn.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account.
- Give us an email address that reaches you — it is how we confirm your account and how you recover it.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- Your handle is yours while you hold it. Handles that impersonate somebody else, or that are reserved for the running of the service, may be reclaimed.
What you make stays yours
You own your photographs, your routes and your words. We claim no ownership of them and we will not sell them.
So that the service can actually work, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, adapt and display your content for the purpose of running and promoting Yomp.guide. In plain terms that covers: showing a published yomp to readers, making the thumbnails and share cards the app generates from your own photographs, and featuring a published yomp in the Atlas or in our own promotion of the service. This licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies already made by other people and any we are required to keep.
Only publish content you have the right to publish, and do not publish identifiable people who have not agreed to it.
Affiliate and paid links
You may add product links to your yomps, including affiliate links that earn you a commission. If you do:
- Disclosing that is your responsibility, not ours. UK advertising rules require paid or commissioned promotion to be obvious to the reader, and the obligation sits with the person publishing it.
- You must comply with the terms of whichever affiliate programme you are in.
- Do not misrepresent gear you did not use, or prices you did not pay. Honest totals are the whole point of this service.
We take no cut of your affiliate earnings and we are not party to those arrangements.
Things not to do
- Publish anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or deceptive.
- Publish anyone else's work or likeness without their permission.
- Impersonate another person or creator.
- Attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service or anyone's account.
- Scrape the service at a scale that degrades it for other people.
Published means public
Publishing a yomp makes it readable by anyone, including people without an account and search engines. Consider what your route and photographs reveal about where you live and where you go. The Privacy Policy sets this out in more detail, including the limits of how private a draft really is.
No promises about availability
The service is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or preserved forever, and we recommend keeping your own copies of photographs that matter to you. Features may change or be removed.
Ending it
You may stop using the service and have your account closed at any time — write to hello@yomp.guide. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first.
Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit or lost data, or for decisions you make in the outdoors.
Say this part twice: the gear lists here are somebody's record of one trip, not safety advice. What kept one person comfortable on one day is not a guarantee about your day. Your judgement in the hills is your own.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction — save that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and for material changes we will tell account holders directly. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
